After many years working in the UK furniture and kitchen industry — alongside customers, designers and manufacturers — I kept noticing the same thing: homes weren’t getting bigger, but furniture often was.
Rooms work best when every piece earns its place. Not by filling space, but by making life feel easier and more organised.
That idea became Mallet & Plane.
We choose furniture that has to pass a few simple tests. Does it work well in everyday life? Does it feel well made and built to last? Will it sit comfortably in a room without feeling oversized or visually heavy? Does it add something useful — whether that’s storage, flexibility, or simply helping a space feel calmer and more organised?
If a piece doesn’t earn its place, it doesn’t belong in the collection.

The name Mallet & Plane comes from the traditional tools of the carpenter — a small nod to craftsmanship, honest materials and furniture made with care.
